Dr. Zhu鈥檚 research has focused on:

  • Impact of nutrition, behavioral and Social Determinant of Health factors on biological aging (cellular aging and epigenetic aging);
  • The underlying mechanisms of salt-sensitive hypertension and cardiometabolic health using omic-approach;
  • Prediction and prevention of maternal-fetal health risk.

Preeclampsia and Pregnancy Hypertension: Mechanisms and Biomarkers for early detection
The goal of this pilot study is to establish feasibility and generate preliminary data for an extramural application aiming to identify biomarkers of pre-eclampsia and pregnancy hypertension for early detection.

Effects of Vitamin D and Omega-3 supplementation on telomeres in VITAL              
The goal of this ancillary study is to examine the beneficial effects of vitamin D and omega-3 supplementation on aging in a large randomized, placebo controlled clinical trial of VITAL.
